David Harold Franzoni (born March 4, 1947) is an American screenwriter and film producer. He conceived the story for, co-wrote and co-produced the 2000 film Gladiator, [1] [2] for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and won the Academy Award for Best Picture.
David Franzoni grew up in Vermont, attended the University of Vermont where he studied geology and paleontology and was a partner in a commercial film company. After attending a semester of graduate school, David dropped out, went to Berlin where he bought a motorcycle.
