The stables of the Lower Belvedere, where Prince Eugene’s horses once rested, have housed a permanent collection of medieval art that has been open to the public since 2007. Upper Belvedere. Even more sumptuous than the Lower Belvedere is the palace built later, designed as a display of Prince Eugene’s prestige and wealth.
The Belvedere's collection of medieval art was first exhibited at the Orangery next to the Lower Belvedere in 1953. In 1955, after years of rebuilding and renovation, the Upper Belvedere was reopened to the public, showing works by Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Oskar Kokoschka, and other major Austrian artists.
