Hongshan District ( simplified Chinese : 洪山 区; traditional Chinese : 洪山 區; pinyin : Hóngshān Qū) forms part of the urban core of and is one of 13 urban districts of the prefecture-level city of Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province, China. The district is named for Mount Hong, located near East Lake.

Optical Valley, Wuhan. The Optical Valley, also known as Wuhan East Lake High-Tech Development Zone, was established in 1988. As the cradle of China’s optoelectronic industry, it is approved as one of the first national-level high-tech zones in 1991. It is located in the Hongshan District, southeast of Wuhan City.

The Hongshan Mountain is located on the bank of the Yingjin River, northeast of Chifeng City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The mountain covers an area of 10 square kilometers; and it comprises 9 peaks, among which t h e main peak is 746 meters above sea level.
Hongshan sites have been found in an area stretching from Inner Mongolia to Liaoning, and dated from about 4700 to 2900 BC. The culture is named after Hongshanhou (simplified Chinese: 红山后; traditional Chinese: 紅山後; pinyin: Hóngshān hòu), a site in Hongshan District, Chifeng.
