May 1, 2023 · Among the North East of England’s oldest urban parks, Mowbray Park is right in the city centre, behind the Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens. The park opened in 1857, but had been in the pipeline for more than 20 years, after the city realised it needed more green space following a cholera epidemic in 1831.
