The Shelby Family is a small and wealthy family originating in Birmingham, England, Irish on their father's side and Romany-Gypsy on their mother's. At the start of the series, their influence is limited to Birmingham and Small Heath, but eventually extends much farther, over a large portion of Birmingham and London, as well as connections in many places domestic and abroad. The Shelby Family run the Peaky Blinders and Shelby Company Limited.
As a wealthy family, the Shelby's own many cars, homes and properties such as the Garrison, the local pub in Small Heath, and the Eden Club in London. Through the marriage of John Shelby and Esme Shelby, the Shelby Family are closely linked with the Romany-Gypsy Lee Family.

- Michael Gray. Michael is is a Shelby cousin. Though not being an immediate member of the family, this doesn't prevent him from rising up the ranks quickly.

Their paternal aunt, Helen McCrory’s irreplaceable Polly Gray, is the daughter of “ Gypsy Princess ” Birdie Boswell, and their mother comes from the Lee family.
