Geraldine Kennedy ( née Granger) is a female vicar and the central character of the show. She is portrayed by Dawn French.
Geraldine Granger arrived at Dibley on the 10th November 1994, at the house of David Horton. At first David thought it was a joke and that they could not have landed them with a woman vicar. He soon realised that Geraldine was actually the new vicar and he was horrified.
It is set in the fictional Oxfordshire village of Dibley, which is assigned a female vicar following the 1993 changes in the Church of England that permitted the ordination of women. Dawn French plays the lead role of vicar Geraldine Granger.
