Jun 23, 2023 · 28-year-old Patricia Marie “Patty” Hicks Dahlstrom had decided to join a cult led by Donald Gibson. It was believed that the cult leaders and some close allies used to sexually assault their female members which led to the defection of Patricia. Gibson was arrested alongside his followers and Patricia decided to leave the cult.
A skull was discovered nearby in 1988. In April 2021, genetic genealogy identified the remains as being those of Hicks. Stayner is known to have been acquainted with Gibson at the time of his 1981 trial, which he attended. Authorities believe Stayner may have chosen to kill Hicks in retaliation for testifying against Gibson.
