Dec 24, 2023 · After years of passing the idea of an R-rated Borderlands movie around in Hollywood, Eli Roth signed on to direct the movie in February 2020, with a script written by The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin. Filming got underway just over a year later in April 2021 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, and wrapped in June 2021.
