     As mentioned in the answer by Jim J, sigmoid forces the output to the range [0, 1]. In this case, it's not because we want to interpret the output as a probability, rather it's done to force the output to be interpreted as pixel intensity of a grey scale image.

     If you remove the sigmoid, the NN will have to learn that all the outputs should be in the range [0, 1]. The sigmoid might help making the learning process more stable.

     There are numerous reasons to break the file into smaller packets: 1. Network congestion - a single stream of data from one device would prevent other devices from getting time on the network until the file was fully transferred. 2. Breaking the file into small packets allows for devices between the two endpoints (routers and switches) to reduce the amount of memory needed to handle a given packet. 3. If a single packet is corrupted or lost in flight, it can be resent without starting over.

     You can specify the input shape of your model in several different ways. For example by providing one of the following arguments to the first layer of your model:

     • batch_input_shape: A tuple where the first dimension is the batch size.
     • input_shape: A tuple that does not include the batch size, e.g., the batch size is assumed to be None or batch_size, if specified.
     • input_dim: A scalar indicating the dimension of the input.

     In all these cases, Keras is internally storing an attribute _batch_input_size to build the model.

     Regarding the build method, my guess is that this is indeed a conscious choice - information about the batch size might be useful to build the model in some (perhaps unthought-of) situations. Therefore, a framework that includes the batch dimension as input to build is more generic and complete than a framework that doesn't. Nonetheless, I agree with you that naming the argument batch_input_shape instead of input_shape would make everything more consistent.

     It is also worth mentioning that users rarely need to call the build method by themselves. This happens internally when it is needed. Nowadays, it is even possible to ignore the input_shape argument when creating the model (although methods like summary will then not work until the model is built). In this case, Keras is able to infer the input shape from the argument x of fit.

     Closing the socket won't do any thing on the other side. The remote host will not know that the connection has been closed. The only way to check whether the connection is closed is to try to read or write from/to the input/output stream. If -1 is returned by the InputStream#read() method, then the second side knows that the first side closed the connection. A thrown IOException also indicates a closed connection.

     Normally you don't need to close the in/output stream as they are closed when invoking Socket#close(). Socket#close() is the only thing you need to do to close a connection.

     But if you have a wrapper stream (e.g. BufferdInputStream/BufferedOutputStream) you should explicitly close these wrapper streams to release resources used by these wrapper streams (e.g. byte buffer array). You only need to close the top level wrapper stream as closing the wrapper closes the wrapped stream which closes the wrapped stream of the wrapped stream, too. And so on...

     Because if find returns the end iterator and you dereference it you are triggering undefined behavior, which means that your program may do whatever - happen to work, work incorrectly, plain crash. This is a general rule of all C++ containers - the end iterator is just a placeholder for a "one past last" element, used as an end condition for loops or to signal that an element does not exist; you aren't meant to dereference it.

     If you want a more compact way to check if an element is present, just use set.count(x).
