Good King Wenceslas, known historically as Wenceslaus I, Duke of Bohemia, was born around 907 AD in the Kingdom of Bohemia, part of the present-day Czech Republic. His early life was set against a backdrop of significant political and religious upheaval, as Christianity was beginning to take root in a region previously dominated by pagan beliefs.
Oldřich was the fourth (third surviving) son of Duke Boleslaus II of Bohemia (d. 999). [1] Like all his father's children, his mother was Adiva. Upon the death of his father, his eldest brother Boleslaus III succeeded as duke, however, he soon entered into a fierce conflict with his younger brothers Oldřich and Jaromír.
The Duchy of Bohemia was raised to a hereditary Kingdom of Bohemia, when Duke Ottokar I ensured his elevation by the German king Philip of Swabia in 1198. The Přemyslids remained in power throughout the High Middle Ages, until the extinction of the male line with the death of King Wenceslaus III in 1306.
Wenceslaus and Duke Frederick formed an alliance against the Emperor. Frederick the Emperor chose to lift the ban in 1237 rather than maintain another open front. Wenceslaus managed to negotiate the expansion of Bohemia north of the Danube, annexing territories offered by Duke Frederick in order of forming and maintaining their alliance.

Apr 27, 2022 · Oldrich (also Ulrich or Oldřich) (ca. 975 – 11 November 1034) was the duke of Bohemia from 1012 to 1033 and briefly in 1034. He was a son of Boleslaus II and brother of Boleslaus III and Jaromir. Oldrich deposed Jaromir on 12 April 1012 and recognised the suzerainty of the Holy Roman Emperor.
