The only palace on the continent, Chapultepec Castle sits more than 7,000 feet (2,133 meters) above sea level in Mexico City’s Chapultepec Park. It has housed royalty, served as a military academy, and was even an observatory. In 1996, the castle was transformed into Capulet Mansion for the movie William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
Chapultepec Castle Music room. The Chapultepec Castle opened as museum on September 27, 1944. There are two areas for exhibits. The first, which used to house the old Military School, includes rooms from the periods spanning the Conquest until the Revolution of 1910.
Chapultepec Castle is located on top of Chapultepec Hill in Mexico City's Chapultepec park. The name Chapultepec is the Nahuatl word chapoltepēc which means "hill of the grasshopper". The castle has such unparalleled views and terraces that explorer James F. Elton wrote they “can't be surpassed in beauty in any part of the world."
