I think my first Tomita album was “The Planets” and back then, the only playback mediums available to us were vinyl, cassette, and 8-track, all of which kind of sucked compared to today’s high-quality digital mediums such as the ones Apple just announced and is now distributing.

  2. Dec 4, 2012 · THE PLANETS is a completely different mood for TOMITA, but he did a fantastic job on it. Each time I hear any part of THE PLANETS performed by Symphony Orchestra, it sounds very two-dimensional and just falls flat compared to TOMITA’s.

  6. Tomita's The Planets takes the drama of Holst and the Wagnerian/Straussian inspired early 20th century classical masterpiece and filters it very tongue and cheek through glossy 70's synths. I remember being enthused by the album cover many years before and I believe my brother has/had this album in his collection for samples.
