Ahu Tongariki is the largest ceremonial center on Easter Island or Rapa Nui. The impressive structure is made up of 15 moai facing the Pacific Ocean and is the most important megalithic monument in all of Polynesia. The statues that can be seen today were rebuilt by archaeological conservation efforts in the 1990s, as the originals were demolished during civil wars and natural disasters.
In several ahu moai, the ends of the platform were extended with lower structures or small ramps forming lateral wings. At the Ahu Tongariki, the largest structure in Rapa Nui, the central platform, where 15 colossal moai were installed, measured 45 meters in length, and the lateral extensions increased its length to a total of 150 meters.

The essence of the Ahu Tongariki tour. Ahu Tongariki houses the largest stone platform on Easter Island. This platform, known as an ahu, is lined up on 200 metre (650 foot) long podiums. Easter Island’s ahu were meticulously restored in the early 1990s after the island’s civil war toppled the moai and a tsunami later displaced them inland.

Tijekom građanskog rata između Dugouhih i Kratkouhih bio je srušen, a 1960. obalu je pogodio plimni val ( tsunami ) kojega je izazvao potres , te moaie, od kojih su neki teški i 30 tona, odnio u unutrašnjost otoka nekoliko stotina stopa.

It has 15 moai lined up and includes the largest moai ever erected on the island (you can guess which one) weighing in at over 86 tonnes. You can however see another larger moai in the process of being carved out of the Rano Raraku volcano , but it was never finished.
