Johann van Beethoven (1739 or 1740-92) Beethoven's father. At the age of 22, Johann van Beethoven secured an appointment as court musician, due to his fine tenor voice. To supplement his small income, he gave singing and piano lessons. In 1767 he married Maria Magdalena Keverich of Ehrenbreitstein, a town a short distance up the Rhine from Bonn.
Maria Magdalena Keverich got married to her second husband Johann van Beethoven on November 12th 1767 in Saint Remigius Church in Bonn. Beethoven worked as tenor at the electoral court chapel in Cologne. Until 1774, the family lived in Bonngasse 20, where their son Ludwig was born on Decemer 12th 1770. Maria Magdalena van Beethoven, née Keverich (19 December 1746 – 17 July 1787) was the wife of the Bonn court musician Johann van Beethoven, and the mother of the composer Ludwig van Beethoven. Her birthplace is now a museum, the Mutter-Beethoven-Haus.
