Over 900 years ago, the eruption of Sunset Crater Volcano in Arizona forced the people living in the region of present-day Flagstaff to evacuate their homes and the lands they had cultivated for 400 years.
Sep 14, 2021 · Behind the visitor center, the Wupatki Pueblo Trail leads to the park’s main ruins, the largest free-standing pueblo in northern Arizona. Nearby, the Wukoki Pueblo stands three stories tall and overlooks the desert all the way to the San Francisco Peaks. The remaining four pueblos are several miles down the road.
Wupatki National Monument, 30 miles north of Flagstaff in Arizona, contains well preserved Anasazi and Sinagua ruins at the edge of the Painted Desert, including Wupatki, Wukoki, Lomaki, Citadel and Nalakihu.

Wupatki National Monument is a wonderful collection of impressive Anasazi / Sinagua / Ancestral Puebloan ruins with beautiful views in every direction. The trails are short and sweet and you get to explore in and around the structures which is the best way to see them.
