Inspector Montalbano is the protagonist in a series of mystery novels by Italian author Andrea Camilleri. Montalbano is a Sicilian detective who works for the fictional town of Vigata. Camilleri has referred to Montalbano as a “serial killer of characters,” in reference to how much attention the character requires from the author.
Based on Andrea Camilleri's detective novels, they are located in the imaginary town of Vigàta, Sicily, which is based on Camilleri's native Porto Empedocle. The series star Salvo Montalbano is the police chief, or commissario. The music for the soundtrack was composed by Franco Piersanti.
