Immortals is beautiful to watch, but devoid of anything resembling substance or meaningful dialogue. The story is essentially your typical "good versus evil" storyline with evil represented by King Hyperion (Mickey Rourke) and good represented by a perpetually angry peasant named Theseus (Henry Cavill, soon to be known as Superman).
The film begins with a quote from Socrates: “All men’s souls are immortal. But the souls of the righteous are immortal and divine.” And, as it turns out, Immortals is chockfull of spiritual ideas and beings. Gods abound from the Classical pantheon: Zeus, Poseidon, Athena, Ares and a bevy of more petty deities get screen time.
