Feb 27, 2024 · Glasgow Wins 2024 Site Selection. September 4, 2022 ~ JoPhan. Glasgow has won the vote to host the 2024 Worldcon, the 82nd World Science Fiction Convention. The site in Scotland has previously hosted Worldcons in 1995 and 2005. Chicon 8 reports that 809 ballots were cast in the election, with 776 in favour of Glasgow.

Feb 10, 2024 · Glasgow 2024 – A Worldcon for our Futures, announced on February 27, 2024 that the only bid filed to host the 2026 Worldcon is Los Angeles in 2026. Therefore, this is the only bid that will be on the ballot for the site selection election. Per WSFS rules, other bids can file until the close of voting and can be selected as write-in bids.
Worldcon is an amateur, non-profit, volunteer event put on by fans for fans, not a commercial, money-making enterprise. Everyone who works on Worldcon is a volunteer. Worldcon is also an event with a budget around $1 million USD, that will usually involve 300-700 volunteers, depending on the number of attendees.
The Worldcon takes place under the auspices of the World SF Society, membership of which is conferred by purchasing membership in the current Worldcon. The WSFS Constitution enshrines the Hugo, Retro Hugo and Worldcon site selection rules, and is regularly amended at open business meetings held at each Worldcon.
