Pancrase is a Japanese mixed martial arts (MMA) promotion company based in Tokyo. It was founded in 1993 by professional wrestlers Masakatsu Funaki and Minoru Suzuki . The name was based on pankration, a fighting sport in the Ancient Olympic Games. Suzuki and Funaki practiced catch wrestling.

I haven't really watched much of the fights, but based from my perspective, modern Pancrase just looks like modern MMA. I think what made early Pancrase fighters entertaining to watch is they used to fight with an MMA system that was a mix of Kickboxing + open-palm strikes and Catch Wrestling as their grappling.
