May 27, 2023 · The Dogs of War is based on a 1974 novel by Frederick Forsyth, author of The Day of the Jackal. Like that adaptation, this film is interested in the logistics of an operation.
In the novel from which the film is loosely based, the mercenaries use a cache of World War II MP40s purchased from an ex-SS soldier. For fire support, the mercenaries use RPG-7s and 60-mm mortars smuggled out of Yugoslavia. The Zangaran troops are armed with Mauser Gewehr 1898s.
