Ehrenberg a fost laureat al Medaliei Leeuwenhoek în 1877.
Ehrenberg est nommé professeur de médecine à l' université de Berlin en 1827. Il est élu membre étranger de la Royal Society de Londres en 1837. En 1839, la Geological Society of London lui décerne sa plus haute récompense, la médaille Wollaston. Il est aussi le premier titulaire de la médaille Leeuwenhoek en 1877.
