My friend recommends that we attempt to get Dong before entering Vietnam from Bangkok since there is 2 visa lines at the airport. One for paying with US$ and the other Dong. You can imagine most visitors arrive with $ making this Dong line a much better option.

Re: Tipping in US Dollars or Vietnamese Dong. I tip in Vietnamese Dong. Normally if by my self I might leave 5000 dong (26 cents) and if it is a couple of us, maybe 15000 Dong 73 cents). I think that for a waiter or watress to waste time running around to exchange $1 usd is not benifical. A usd $1 is worth 18K dong.
