In Say One for Me (1959), a mediocre musical produced by and starring Bing Crosby, Stevens made her acting debut as a chorus girl in a supporting role.
She hated the name Dovey, and was always called Estelle, She was courted and wed by Thomas Ellett Eggleston in 1938. Tom was from Yazoo City, Mississippi, which is where they lived. Their union produced Estelle's only child, a daughter, Estelle Caro Eggleston. Tom remained her husband until he died of a stroke in 1991.
