Jul 10, 2012 · Altered States is quite literally "trippy", and often compelling, with very sharp dialog, expertly played by an first-rate cast. It's also a little over-the-top at times, but you have admire a major Hollywood studio backing a science fiction movie aimed at more mature audiences so soon after Star Wars (and by a writer whose contract forbade any alterations to the script).
