He called her "The Believer," and indeed Clara's unwavering support of Henry's pursuits and her patient tolerance of the quirks and obsessions that accompanied her husband's genius made it possible for him to change the world.
When Henry Ford died in 1947, Clara Ford relinquished that power, bestowing it on her grandson, Henry Ford II. She did, however, hold a sizable amount of stock in the company, which she willed to her grandchildren as well as her great-grandchildren. Clara Bryant Ford met Henry Ford in 1885. They were engaged in 1886 and married in 1888.
For both Clara and Henry, it was a year filled with festivities, banquets, and public appearances associated with these milestones. Clara Ford celebrated her 72nd birthday on April 11, 1938, and she and her husband Henry commemorated their 50th wedding anniversary on the same date. That July, Henry celebrated his 75th birthday.
