After two lackluster seasons there, Fouts transferred to St. Ignatius College Preparatory in San Francisco where he finished out his prep career. Fouts’ s play was night and day after the school change, quickly emerging as one of the better quarterbacks in the area.

At Oregon, the 6-foot-3 Fouts blossomed into one of the nation’s top passers and set 19 school records, including career passing with 5,995 yards. He threw 24 touchdown passes in 1970 and 54 from 1970-72. Oregon went 15-17-1 in those years.
