Charles Bronson is easily as good of an actor as Clint Eastwood or Burt Reynolds from the same period and in the early 1970's was probably as big a star as either of them.

The Stone Killer. A 1973 action neo noir thriller directed by Michael Winner that has a New York detective ( Charles Bronson) going to LA to solve a case involving a mafia family feud. The movie also stars Martin Balsam, David Sheiner, Norman Fell, Ralph Waite, Paul Koslo, Stuart Margolin, Jack Colvin, and John Ritter.
The Stone Killer is an interesting film, Bronson portrays a plain-clothes cop named Lou Torrey, Torrey has a penchant for being a little violent at times and it costs him his badge in NYC. Torrey eventually picks up a Lieutenant position at the Los Angeles department and gets knee deep in some real problems.

The Stone Killer is a superior example of its type -- tough cop against the mob -- and probably the best violent big-city police movie since Dirty Harry. It's not much more, nor does it mean to be.
