It's rumored to be the after birth of the attempt of making a Halo movie by Peter Jackson (rumored), so you can even see certain "Halo-like" features within the movie. I.e armor, and trucks. Anyways, District 9 is a very humanizing movie about aliens based upon the apartheid in South Africa.
