1. ‘ A Supermarket in California ’. 1955 was a good year for Allen Ginsberg. As well as writing ‘Howl’, the long poem for which he is best-known (see below), he also wrote this poem in the same year. But it’s a much shorter and more accessible work than ‘Howl’, so the perfect place to begin discovering Ginsberg’s writing.
