As a retired civil engineer, I found the Falkirk Wheel quite fascinating but it is a sight and experience that can be enjoyed by anyone. The wheel rotates to raise and lower boats the 35m difference in height between the Forth & Clyde and the Union canals and visitors can book a ride on one of the boats, which of course we did.

Visitors can get the full 'The Falkirk Wheel Experience' by taking one of the special "trip" boats at the site, however, the visitor centre gives a perfect viewpoint from which to watch the Wheel in action.
