  1. Virgil Exner. Virgil "Ex" Exner (September 24, 1909–December 22, 1973) was an automobile designer for numerous American companies, notably Chrysler and Studebaker. He is known for his "Forward Look" design on the 1955 through 1961 Chrysler products and his fondness of fins on cars for both aesthetic and aerodynamic reasons.

  2. Virgil Exner's long career in automotive design included work with General Motors, Raymond Loewy Associates, and Studebaker. He is best remembered for his tenure at Chrysler, where he headed design from 1953 to 1961. Exner designed the Mercer-Cobra concept car in 1963. The Copper Development Association funded a promotional prototype -- finished with much copper and brass.

The not often seen photos of the concept cars as they go through their evolution of ideas are great to see. The contribution of his son, Virgil Exner Jr. who is also a stylist of note, add much to the book.
