Route 66 runs between Chicago, in Illinois and Santa Monica in California, crossing eight states: Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and California.

Built in the early 1940’s this old Gulf gas station eventually succumbed to the widening of Route 66, losing it’s pumps but gaining new business selling curios to Route 66 travelers. The large concrete teepee certainly makes it stand out as you cruise through Tucumcari. 6.
Continental Divide. As you continue your journey westward from Grants, New Mexico, on Route 66, you’ll head out to several small villages, including Milan, Bluewater, Prewitt, and Thoreau, before reaching the Continental Divide. This 31.4-mile segment was designated State Highway 6 in 1914 and is a part of the National Old Trails Highway.
