If you are a secure traveler, you should consider Bologna as a base and get out on your own on the train to visit other smaller towns around the region. (if the hubby is busy and can't accompany you) Spending a full week in Bologna would be boring for me.
Jul 4, 2017 · 07/04/17 06:51 PM. 336 posts. I stayed last week 15 minutes from bologna at savoia hotel. Great hotel, food and service. I stayed there because i wanted it to be easy to travel also outside Bologna. Went to Ravenna and San marino from there, Mantova as well. Posted by tkasanders OP.
Jan 18, 2013 · Toledo, Ohio, US. 01/18/13 06:55 PM. 11613 posts. RS guides are from a personal point of view. Bologna has lots to see. From its two leaning towers to great peblic squares, museums, shopping, and some of Italy's best cuisine. I would give it one or two days,at least.

There are plenty of good day trips from Bologna, including Ravenna, Ferrara, Parma, Modena, Verona, Padua, plus Florence, Milan and Venice although of course these deserve longer stays (and Florence in particular has many good day trips of its own). We stayed about 5 days in Bologna a few years ago and had a great day trip to Ravenna.
Mar 11, 2018 · As a major transit hub, Bologna offers a lot of great day-trip opportunities. Some are food-related (Parma and Modena), but the destination I chose was Ravenna. It has a lovely historic center and 6 or 7 mosaic sites that are just wonderful. It is amazingly non-touristy, or at least it was in 2015.
