The eighth round of PISA assessment was originally planned to take place in 2021 but the disruption caused by COVID-19 forced the assessment to be postponed by a year. The first results of PISA 2022 will be unveiled in two volumes on 5 December 2023.
PISA results do not establish causality. PISA identifies empirical correlations between student achievement and the characteristics of schools and education systems, correlations that show consistent patterns across countries. Implications for policy are based on this correlational evidence and previous research. ← 5.

In United States, the average performance in science of 15-year-olds is 499 points, compared to an average of 485 points in OECD countries. Average 2022 results were down compared to 2018 in mathematics, and about the same as in 2018 in reading and science. Overall, 2022 results are among the lowest ever measured by PISA in mathematics.
Dec 18, 2023 · Test scores declined all around the world, but the OECD found there was only a small relationship between how long schools were closed and their students’ performance on the PISA test. School closures explained only 11 percent of the variation in countries’ test scores; nearly 90 percent is attributable to other, unclear reasons.
