Jun 22, 2023 · The title of Todd Rundgren's second solo set may be confusingly close to that of his debut, but RUNT: THE BALLAD OF TODD RUNDGREN was a big step forward for the performer. The cover sets the stage in a couple of respects; piano-led ballads are front-and-center, along with sly wit (though Sparks' Ron Mael helped put Todd's head in the noose).

The Ballad of Todd Rundgren (1971) features more of Todd's Laura Nyro-inspired Soul/Pop ballads, and another hit in 'Long Flowing Robe'.
Aug 28, 2017 · Only if “Runt” had more time to gel and to gather a certain direction, it would've easily become worthy to be compared to subsequent works, yet it falls short of the mark greatly. Despite its failings, "Runt" is most definitely Todd Rundgren with his training wheels still on, crafting an album that isn't entirely "there" at just the age of 22.
