Cy Coleman. Cy Coleman (1929–2004) was born Seymour Kaufman in New York City to Eastern European Jewish parents, and was raised in the Bronx. A child prodigy, Coleman gave piano recitals at Steinway Hall, Town Hall and Carnegie Hall between the ages of six and nine.

A pianist, singer, producer and composer of popular songs and scores for screen and stage, Cy Coleman was a cornerstone of Broadway from the early '60s until the new millennium. Initially working with the lyricist Carolyn Leigh, together they produced many standards of the Great American Songbook such as "Witchcraft" and "The Best Is Yet to Come."
