Ava Gardner (1922 – 1990) Ava Lavinia Gardner was born on December 24, 1922, in Grabtown, a small rural community in Johnston County, North Carolina. In 1986, Gardner suffered a stroke leading to health complications and she later passed away on January 25, 1990. Her resting place remains the Sunset Memorial Park in Smithfield.
