"Combat!" was the most realistic, exciting and emotional show in television history. This gem about a squad of soldiers battling it out in WWII after D-Day did not glorify war, though there were lots and lots of actions scenes and firefights, but instead focused on the individual soldier and how he dealt with the war personally and as part of a brotherhood.
Saunders' squad is sent behind enemy lines to find and destroy a German radar installation. Sgt. Rawlings, a radar specialist, is sent along to learn all he can about the German radar before it is destroyed, and a French resistance fighter, Marchand, is also sent along to guide them.
The stories were serious and they contained morality and compassion.Aanti-war leftests didn't like Combat!, saying it was not real and that faksekt encouraged American boys to die in Vietnam. Combat! began in 1963 (years before LBJ escalated US involvement in the war) and ended in 1968. The Hell with those critics. Enjoy this series on DVD.
