Now comes the killer- the start of the domino-effect that killed Elvis Presley and any hopes he ever had to become a "serious actor" a la Dean and Brando.
"G.I Blues" propelled Elvis back into Quigley Publications "Box Office" ten most profitable movie stars, where he stayed through 1966. The RCA soundtrack went platinum, and was #1 for ten of its amazing 111 weeks on the LP chart. RCA planned no 45 RPM singles (which helped album sales), but "Wooden Heart" and "G.I. Blues" became hits anyway.

G.I. Blues is 13773 on the JustWatch Daily Streaming Charts today. The movie has moved up the charts by 7241 places since yesterday. In the United States, it is currently more popular than Looking for an Echo but less popular than Red Hill.

Dec 7, 2006 · The G.I. Blues album spent a total of 111 weeks on Billboard's Top Pop chart, with 10 weeks at #1. No other release by Elvis charted for this length of time. This version of the album is called the "Collector's Edition" and what you get is the expanded 20 track version from 1997 with the disk enclosed in a CD size 26 page hard-cover book.

Selling for around US$45 it was certainly great value-for-money. It also included multiple takes from the Paramount Soundstage session that we note are not featured on this FTD 'G.I. Blues' Vol.1 release. EIN wonders if any of the missing April 27-28 sessions will be mopped up on Volume 2.
