The Kiasma building was designed by American architect Steven Holl. His entry, Chiasma, won first prize in the 1993 architectural design competition for the museum of contemporary art from a total of 516 entries. Kiasma opened to the public on 30.5.1998. Kiasma has galleries on five floors, connected by ramps, stairs and elevators.
