Dec 5, 2015 · Ever wondered where that "Please Stand By" loading screen originated in the Fallout series? It's call the Indian-head test pattern. There's a history behind it, and it's an interesting one!
The Indian-head test pattern is a test card that gained widespread adoption during the black-and-white television broadcasting era as an aid in the calibration of television equipment. It features a drawing of a Native American wearing a headdress surrounded by numerous graphic elements designed to test different aspects of broadcast display.
Instead, a green screen accompanied by a bizarre noise was shown, and seconds later, the station went to a "please stand by" screen. This likely occurred due to severe thunderstorms that were in Indianapolis at the time.
Please Stand By is a 2017 American comedy-drama film directed by Ben Lewin and based on the 2008 short play of the same name by Michael Golamco, who also wrote the screenplay. The film stars Dakota Fanning, Toni Collette, Alice Eve, River Alexander and Patton Oswalt, and was distributed by Magnolia Pictures.
