One was called BMG Music Service and the other was called Columbia House. They offered special deals like "15 CDs for the price of one, with nothing more to buy, ever." So you would have to buy 1 album at full club price, which was about $20 or so with s/h and you would get all these other ones for free (but did have to pay shipping on them).

For the average music collector, I do not think it is a problem. But for the die-hard collector they need to have the original pressing.

I remember padding my CD collection with these... You'd have to check magazines and stuff for the cards that gave you 12 or 15 for 1! Their s&h was too pricey tho. I think I did an entire process and it worked out to about $50... Not terrible but Still not really 10 for 1. Let's not talk about fake names and collection letters.
