In Mississippi, a primary candidate must win a majority of the votes cast for the office he or she is seeking in order to secure the nomination. If no candidate for an office wins a majority of votes cast in the primary, a runoff election between the top two vote-getters is held.
Voters can apply for a card during normal business hours (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). Voters who need transportation to a circuit clerk’s office can call the secretary of state’s voter ID toll-free hotline at 1-844-678-6837, visit www.MSVoterID.ms.gov, or email MSVoterID@sos.ms.gov to schedule a ride.
HOW TO VOTE ABSENTEE. There are two ways to vote in Mississippi-in person and by absentee ballot. We encourage everyone who is eligible to vote absentee to do so in person at your Circuit Clerk’s Office. Your Circuit Clerk’s Office must remain open the two Saturdays before Election Day for absentee voting from 8am-12pm.
