May 4, 2013 · Darkly is indeed an adverb modifying see. What darkly refers to here is not so much an absence of light but of clarity. The glass might be dirty or fogged. This is a biblical reference, by the way, probably indirectly via the Ingmar Bergman film "Through a Glass Darkly" (google it). In the film, the "glass" is actually a mirror.
