Miklós Rózsa. Hungarian-born composer best known for his film scores. Born April 18, 1907, Budapest, Austro-Hungarian empire. Died July 27, 1995, Los Angeles, California, USA. Rózsa was a child prodigy and studied the violin from the age of five and went to Leipzig to study music at the Leipzig Conservatory with Hermann Grabner in 1926.

Regarded for more than forty years as one of the absolute masters of music in cinema, Miklós Rózsa is also one of the most outstanding composers of this century. I met him last August in Detroit. He was taking part in the Meadow Brook Music Festival, where he conducted the Detroit Symphony Orchestra in a concert of his works.
