State & Territorial Quarters (1999-2009) Beginning in 1999 and lasting through 2008, all quarter dollars coined by the United States Mint feature reverse designs commemorating each of the 50 states. In 2009 coins honoring the territories and commonwealth of the USA were added.

The U.S. Mint issued five new quarters each year in the order that the states ratified the Constitution or were admitted into the Union. The reverse (tails) of each quarter features a design related to that state.
