The first Heroic Trio movie from the same year was an entertaining fantasy action adventure with a somewhat lackluster plot. But I really liked it for the most part. But this quickly made sequel called “Executioners” really lost me when it comes to the narrative. I cared about pretty much nothing that was going on here.
Much of Heroic Trio’s panels-come-to-life dynamism and anything-can-happen creativity is absent (certainly no flying guillotines or invisible kung-fu). Executioners can’t hope to match the first film’s thrill-a-minute plot: a lot of faction meetings and talking in bland rooms about water, not enough exaggerated confrontations and campy cool.
