swellframe17 2 July 2014. 2 1/2 out of 4 stars. David Wain's "They Came Together" is a parody of all romantic comedies. It's a film that knows what it is and plays off of it. It's a simple story of boy meets girl, boy and girl fight, boy and girl separate, and boy and girl get back together.
you can say that again. sporadically hilarious, but often feels lazy. merely pointing out the obvious tropes of romantic comedies isn't enough, you have to do something with them. when Wain does, it's great, but i infinitely prefer the likes of Wanderlust, where he has real scenarios against which to play the absurdism. tell me about it.
