Director Ralph Nelson has helmed some good, solid movies like "Lillies of the Field" and "Duel at Diablo." Sadly, "Once A Thief" isn't as entertaining as those movies. Mind you, the cast is solid, and the San Francisco setting is atmospheric, but this heist thriller amounts to a grim exercise in "crime doesn't pay."
Come for Alain Delon speaking English, stay for the gorgeous black and white cinematography, powerhouse performance from Ann-Margret, the dynamic between Delon and Van Heflin (plus really great performances from both), and THAT ENDING. Review by dankwit. delon speaking english ends up being surprisingly schwarzenegger adjacent.
