Nichols Arboretum, locally known as the Arb,: 22 is an arboretum on the campus of the University of Michigan, in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Arb is located adjacent to the Huron River, and features over 400 species, including 110 species of trees, in a varied, hilly landscape.
The Nichols Arboretum, near U-M hospital and downtown Ann Arbor, offers trails, riverfront, picnic area, restrooms, and peony and lilac gardens. The Arb allows cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, canoeing and kayaking but does not provide rentals.
The Arb has extensive but dispersed collections of native and exotic trees and shrubs masterfully crafted into a naturalistic landscape begun by O. C. Simonds in 1907. As you explore you'll find one of the richest landscapes in the region that presents vast panoramas, broad valleys, and intimate dales and glens.
Late May Through Early June - 1610 Washington Heights, Ann Arbor, MI . Visiting the Peony Garden at Nichols Arboretum – otherwise known as The Arb by us locals - is truly a treat. From the end of May to the beginning of June these magnificent flowers reach peak bloom. Simply breathtaking!
